High-density QCD pairing in compact star structure

چکیده
Strange quark matter in a color flavor locked (CFL) state can be the true ground state of hadronic matter for a much wider range of the parameters of the model (the gap of the QCD Cooper pairs ∆, the strange quark mass ms and the Bag Constant B) than the state without any pairing. We review the equation of state (EOS) of CFL strange matter and study the structure of stellar objects made up of this phase, highlighting the novel features of the latter. Although the effects of pairing on the equation of state are thought to be small, we find that CFL stars may be in fact much more compact than strange stars (SS). This feature may be relevant in view of some recent observation claiming the existence of exotic and/or deconfined phases in some nearby neutron

The Crystallography of Color Superconductivity
We develop the Ginzburg-Landau approach to comparing different possible crystal structures for the crystalline color superconducting phase of QCD, the QCD incarnation of the Larkin-Ovchinnikov-Fulde-Ferrell phase. In this phase, quarks of different flavor with differing Fermi momenta form Cooper pairs with nonzero total momentum, yielding a condensate that varies in space like a sum of plane wa...
متن کاملColor Superconducting Phases of Cold Dense Quark Matter
We investigate color superconducting phases of cold quark matter at densities relevant for the interiors of compact stars. At these densities, electrically neutral and weak-equilibrated quark matter can have unequal numbers of up, down, and strange quarks. The QCD interaction favors Cooper pairs that are antisymmetric in color and in flavor, and a crystalline color superconducting phase can occ...
متن کاملNew Class of Compact Stars at High Density ∗
We discuss the equation of state for cold, dense quark matter in perturbation theory, and how it might match onto that of hadronic matter. Certain choices of the renormalization scale correspond to a strongly first order chiral transition, and may generate a new class of small and very dense quark stars. The results for the mass-radius relation are compatible with the recent determination of th...
متن کاملMapping the QCD Phase Transition with Accreting Compact Stars
We discuss an idea for how accreting millisecond pulsars could contribute to the understanding of the QCD phase transition in the high-density nuclear matter equation of state (EoS). It is based on two ingredients, the first one being a “phase diagram” of rapidly rotating compact star configurations in the plane of spin frequency and mass, determined with state-of-the-art hybrid equations of st...
متن کاملNonlocality effects on spin-one pairing patterns in two-flavor color superconducting quark matter and compact stars applications
We study the influence of nonlocal interactions in two spin one pairing patterns of two-flavor quark matter: the anisotropic blue color paring besides the usual two color superconducting matter (2SCb), in which red and green colors are paired, and the color spin locking phase (CSL). The effect of nonlocality on the gaps is rather large and the pairings exhibit a strong dependence on the form fa...
